Updated:  09/07/2009 at 7:04 PM
The U10 Challenge Girls - "Strikers" participated in this past weekend's CASL Labor Day Kickoff.  They were the lone JUSA team in a field of 8 teams that included 7 teams from CASL.  The girls won both of their games on Saturday with a 3-2 score in each.  Sunday morning they played Wake Forest United and won 3-0 to advance to the championship match against the CASL Rockets (also 3-0 in the tournament).

The final match was hard fought and exciting to the very end, finishing with a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. Beverly Hernandez scored the lone JUSA goal on a corner kick. During the first 5 minutes of overtime, the Strikers scored on a goal by Emma Glover. On the opening play of the second 5 minutes of extra time, The CASL Rockets tied the score. Extra time finished in a 2-2 tie, and penalty kicks were used to settle the championship.

The Strikers won on Penalty kicks 3-1. Converting on their penalty kicks were Ashlyn Biethman, Beverly Hernandez and Camille Sullivan. Jamiee Saloman was the Strikers keeper who allowed in only one penalty kick to seal the win.
